Getting around

  • Take tram lines T1 or T2 instead of petit taxis. Drivers frequently refuse the meter with foreign passengers; the tram costs 6 MAD flat and connects Casa Port and Casa Voyageurs stations.
  • Eat at the small grill counters inside or just outside Marché Central. A plate of brochettes with bread runs under 40 MAD. The Corniche seafood restaurants are a tourist tax.
  • The Hassan II Mosque is one of the few mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims. The 130 MAD guided tour is worth it; go at the first morning slot (around 9am) before tour buses arrive.

When to go

Rates drop from November through February; July and August fill fast when the Moroccan diaspora returns from Europe, and hostels near Ain Diab beach are the first to go.
