Getting around

  • Buy a metro card at any station on arrival. Lines 1 and 4 connect both train stations to Wuhou, Chunxi Road, and the center without the taxi-queue circus.
  • Book your Giant Panda Breeding Research Base ticket online the day before. Walk-up slots run out fast on weekends, and the animals are most active before 10am.
  • Hotpot on Jinli is priced for tour groups. Walk ten minutes to Yulin or over to Shuangnan and you will pay roughly half for the same meal.

When to go

Hostels are cheapest from mid-November through late January, except for Chinese New Year week when they fill completely and prices jump. October Golden Week and July through August school holidays also push prices and crowds up.
