Where to stay

Most budget beds are packed along Real Street and Hama Street in the town center, a five-minute walk to the port and most tour operators. Corong-Corong, about 2 km south toward Las Cabanas Beach, is quieter and slightly cheaper if you don't mind a tricycle ride into town.

Getting around

  • Book island-hopping tours (A, B, C, D) directly from the operators on Real Street rather than through your hostel. You'll pay 200-400 PHP less per tour for the same boat.
  • Tricycles run fixed routes but will quote tourist prices. Settle the fare before you get in. Town center to Corong-Corong should be around 50-80 PHP per person.
  • The wet market one block off Real Street near the public market has full meals for under 100 PHP. The restaurants fronting the beach charge two to three times more for similar food.

When to go

Hostels are cheapest and easiest to walk into from June through September when afternoon rain is common, and they fill weeks in advance from late December through April when the weather is reliably dry.
