Where to stay

Most budget hostels sit along Tran Hung Dao street in Duong Dong town or in the side streets that slope down toward Long Beach (Bai Truong). Duong Dong puts you within walking distance of the Dinh Cau Night Market and the main pier, which keeps transport costs low.

Getting around

• Rent a motorbike for cheaply per day. Taxis are scarce outside the resort strip, and the roads connecting beaches and the pepper farms in the interior are easy to handle even for cautious riders.
• The Dinh Cau Night Market is convenient but the seafood pricing is aimed at tourists. Walk a block or two inland in Duong Dong and you will find local pho and banh mi spots at a fraction of the market cost.
• If you are visiting in December through February, sort your accommodation before you arrive. Prices at the cheaper end of the market can double compared to the rainy season, and the affordable beds go fast.

When to go

Hostels are cheapest from May through October when afternoon rain keeps crowds away, and they fill up quickly from late November through February when dry weather and holiday travel push demand up across the island.
