The village is a handful of blocks around the plaza and almost everything is walkable from it. Hostels either sit in those central blocks or a little way out on the roads leading into the hills, which are quieter and cooler but mean a walk or a shared taxi back after dinner.
Getting around
- Shared taxis from Santa Cruz leave when full from the Avenida Grigota area and take under three hours, which is faster and barely more expensive than waiting for a bus.
- El Fuerte is a few kilometres uphill from town. Splitting a taxi with other travellers to the entrance and walking back down is the cheap way to see it without a tour.
- Amboro's two access routes are on different sides of the park and need different transport. Sort out which one your guide is using before you commit to a day.
