Praga, on the east bank of the Vistula, has the lowest hostel prices in the city and connects to the center in roughly 10 minutes via the M2 metro. Śródmieście, particularly around Nowy Świat, costs more but puts you within walking distance of the Old Town and most of the main sights.

Getting around

  • Take the KM train from Lotnisko Chopina station at Warsaw Chopin Airport to Warszawa Centralna. It runs frequently, takes around 20 minutes, and costs a few zloty. The taxi queue outside arrivals will cost you 10 times that.
  • Bary mleczne (milk bars) are subsidized canteens serving straightforward Polish food. A full hot lunch, soup included, usually comes in for just a few zloty. Several operate within a short walk of the Palace of Culture and Science in Śródmieście.
