Almost everyone stays along the single beach road that runs from the Carretera del Litoral down to La Bocana. The budget hostels on that strip put you two minutes from the water and the cheap pupuserias; anything farther inland adds a walk without saving money.

Getting around

  • Take the 102 bus from San Salvador's Terminal del Sur to La Libertad, then flag down a pickup truck heading west. Total cost is very cheap and takes about 90 minutes.
  • The pupuserias near the top of the beach road charge very little for a full plate. The spots with ocean views serve the same food for three times the price.
