Local knowledge for Da Nang
Where to stay
Budget travelers cluster in An Thuong, the low-rise grid of streets behind My Khe Beach, particularly around An Thuong 4. It puts you a five-minute walk from the sand and within easy reach of cheap pho spots and convenience stores, without needing a taxi for anything.
Getting around
- Rent a motorbike on Nguyen Van Thoai for cheaply per day and ride to Hoi An in under an hour. Every group tour to the Ancient Town runs 3-4x that price for a slower, less flexible trip.
- Han Market on Bach Dang Street has a ground floor of raw seafood stalls and a cooked-food floor upstairs. Pick your fish downstairs, bring it up, pay a small cooking fee. Cheaper and fresher than the tourist seafood strips near the river.
- The Dragon Bridge fire show runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights at 9pm. Cross to the east bank on Tran Hung Dao before 8:30 for a decent view without the crowd crush on the bridge itself.
When to go
Hostels are cheapest and easy to walk into during November and early March, when the weather is hit or miss. June through August is the domestic and Korean summer holiday rush, so beds fill fast and prices jump 30 to 50 percent over shoulder season.
