• Buses connect La Rioja to Córdoba and Tucumán, serving as a gateway to the Andean Northwest. The bus station is a 45-minute walk from the centre, so use the metered taxis or Uber available at the terminal rank rather than walking with luggage.

When to go

Hostels are cheapest during the winter months of June through August, when temperatures are mild and tourist traffic is lower. Prices rise during the summer holidays of December through March, when domestic travelers visit despite the intense heat.
