Where to stay

Lençóis is compact and walkable, with most budget hostels clustered around the central plaza and the cobblestone streets of the historic center. Staying here keeps you within easy walking distance of the town's own waterfalls and swimming holes, as well as the tour agencies that organize treks into Chapada Diamantina National Park.

Getting around

• Buses from Salvador take about six hours and are the most common way to arrive; check Clickbus or Buscaonibus for schedules, as services vary by season. From Brasília, you can connect via Seabra, though it involves a transfer.
• Many of the best natural attractions, like Cachoeira do Sossego and Poço Halley, are within walking distance of town. You can hike these trails independently without a guide, saving money compared to booking a full-day tour.
• Bring cash. While the town has banks, smaller vendors, trail entrance fees, and rural tour operators often prefer or require cash. ATMs can be unreliable or run out of funds during peak travel periods.

When to go

The dry season from June to September is the busiest and most expensive time, offering the best conditions for hiking and waterfall visits. The wet season, particularly December to March, sees fewer tourists and lower prices, but some trails may be slippery or closed due to heavy rain.
