Where to stay

Pipa is tiny and walkable, with budget hostels clustering along the narrow, cobblestone streets radiating from the main square (Praça da Pipa) and the road toward the main beach. Staying near the center keeps you within steps of the bars, cheap eateries, and the trailheads for the coastal paths. A few cheaper beds are further up the hill toward the Chapadao lookout, which offers sunset views but means a steep walk back to the action at night.

Getting around

• The village is best explored on foot, but the local minibus (coletivo) runs frequently along the main road to Goianinha and stops at key points like the dolphin bay and the cliffs. It costs a fraction of a taxi and is the standard way for locals and budget travelers to reach the more distant beaches.
• Pipa is administratively part of Tibau do Sul, so buses from Natal often drop you at the Tibau do Sul terminal, requiring a short, cheap colectivo ride into Pipa itself. Check your ticket carefully; if it says 'Tibau do Sul' and not 'Pipa', you will need to transfer.
• Cash is king in the smaller bars and for paying the colectivo drivers. While larger restaurants and hostels accept cards, the small change needed for bus fares, beach snacks, and tips is best handled in reais, and ATMs can be scarce or out of service in the village center.

When to go

Hostels are cheapest and easiest to book during the rainy season from March through July, when showers are frequent but often brief. Prices spike and beds fill fast from August through February, which is the dry, sunny season and coincides with the Brazilian summer holidays and Carnival, drawing huge crowds from across the country.
